The 70th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the CGI, Birgunj on 15th August 2016 and was attended by over 800 persons which included inter alia Indian nationals, PIOs, Asstt. CDO and SP of Parsa District, Commanding Officer of Nepal Army, distinguished Nepalese citizens, academicians and office bearers of Chamber of Commerce & Industries of Birgunj, Makwanpur, Chitwan and also members of Nepal India Friendship Associations from all the eight districts and students from various schools around Birgunj.
After hoisting the national flag, the Consul General read out the President’s address to the Nation. This was followed by handing over of two school buses and four ambulances gifted by the Government of India to various Nepalese institutions located in the Post's jurisdiction. The seven ambulances, which were gifted by the Government of India on Republic Day, 2016, were also physically delivered to the respective Nepalese institutions located in the Post's jurisdiction. Later, students of schools and colleges of Parsa and Bara districts presented colourful and scintillating cultural programs comprising skits and dances based on patriotic songs and reflecting the grandeur and cultural diversity of India.
