Celebration of Second International Day of Yoga – 2016 by Consul General of India, Birgunj on June 21, 2016


The Second International Day of Yoga (IDY-2016) was extensively celebrated with enthusiasm in Birgunj. To sum up the occasion, Consul General of India, Birgunj organized a concluding Yoga-conference at New Banquet Hall, Hotel Vishuwa, Birgunj on June 21, 2016 from 0600 hrs to 1200hrs. 


The conference commenced with lighting of lamp jointly by the Mrs. Anju Ranjan, Consul General, CGI, Birgunj, Mr. Hemlal Sharma Bhattarai, Representative from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and BK Rabina from Brahmakumari Rajyog Sewa Kendra, Birgunj. The conference was divided into two sessions – Yoga and exercise for one hour followed by documentations and messages. The second session involved the speeches and discussions from experts. It was attended by around 250 people inter alia former Minister and MPs, social workers, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, religious and spiritual organizations (Brahmakumari  Rajyog Sewa Kendra, Patanjali Yog Samiti , Radha Madhav Samiti, etc.), Muslim community including women, representatives of Birgunj Women's Club, Nepal India Friendship Association and officers/staffs of Consul and media persons.


The messages of Hon'ble Prime Minister of India and Hon'ble External Affair Minister of India were screened subsequent to a Yoga session by Shri Ravishankar Mani Pandey, Yoga teacher, deputed in Consul by ICCR. He demonstrated a number of Yoga Asanas and Pranayama.


The main topics of discussion of the Yoga-conference were 'Awakening with Brahma Kumaris' by BK Rabina from  Brahmakumari Rajyog Sewa Kendra; 'Similarities Between Yoga and Islamic Activities like Namaz  and Sufism" by Shri S.M. Akhtar, Consul, CGI Birgunj; 'Enlightenment  on  Yoga and Spirituality'  by  Shri Vivek Mallik of Radha Madhav Samiti ; 'Relation of Yoga with Ayurveda' by Dr. Divesh Chand Pathak of Nepal Ayurveda Medical College; 'Lecture on Yoga and Pranayama' by Shri Kishori Prasad Kalwar from Patanjali Yog Samiti and 'Foods in Our Life' by Dr. Arpita Peter, Dietician, National Medical College, Birgunj.


As the concluding remarks Consul General highlighted the significance and importance of Yoga. Yoga is not mere exercise; it brings mental peace and communal harmony in the world. She further informed that Consul General of India, Birgunj organized 16 workshops across ten cities of its area of jurisdiction with participation of over 6,000 people to commemorate 2nd International Day of Yoga (IDY- 2016). It included on the rivers confluence at Chitwan to the Janaki Temple, Janakpur. Attendants were ranging from the Chief District Officers team to ITC employees in Birgunj. People from all walks of life inter alia ministers, administration, police, army, religious and spiritiual organizations (Brahamakumaris, Osho, Patanjali, Narhari Das Ashram and Janaki Mandir Committee, etc.), Muslim community, Madarsa Board, tribals including Tharus and Taman attended our workshops at various places. In these yoga workshops, more than 6000 people from different walks of life participated and got inspired to include yoga into their lifestyle.
