1. There is an extensive and close relationship between India & Nepal in the field of human resources development. Assistance in the field of Education is an important bridge linking India-Nepal friendship. Besides the continued large investment for infrastructure development in terms of construction of schools and hostels, Government of India has provided a number of scholarship schemes for Nepali children for higher studies, both in India and Nepal. Presently, the courses offered to Nepali nationals cover Engineering, Medical, Pharmacology, Veterinary Science, Computer Application, Business Administration, Music and Finance. Currently, around 2910 scholarships are provided to Nepali citizens under various scholarship schemes every year.

3. Consulate General of India, Birgunj is responsible for administering scholarships offered to Nepali citizens within the 8 districts under its consular jurisdiction, namely Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Makwanpur and Chitwan. The number of Nepali citizens in these districts, who have benefited by the scholarship schemes in the past 8 years, is given in the table.
